Student Activities

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is an honorary organization whose
purpose is to recognize outstanding seventh and eighth grade students who have met high standards not only scholastically, but also in the areas of service, leadership, character and citizenship. During the school year, the NJHS is involved in projects that assist both the community and the school.

The purpose of Student Council is to encourage, promote, and sponsor extra-curricular activities. The organization is composed of four officers, elected at large, as well as class representatives, selected by each of the middle school classes. Throughout the school year, Student Council sponsors dances, spirit weeks and contests. In addition, they host fundraisers and charity drives.

All student organizations participate in numerous activities and fund-raisers to assist various community groups. These include a food drive at Thanksgiving, a toy drive during the winter holidays and clothing drives in the spring. Eighth graders at Las Vegas Day School must complete twenty hours of community service to graduate. They are encouraged to donate their time to help provide service to the Las Vegas community.

Students participate in several local, state and national academic competitions throughout the school year. These include Science Fair, National Geography Bee, Math Olympiads, Nevada Stock Market Game, MathCounts, and various other art, writing and oratorical contests.

Junior Band is for first-time beginners in grades four through eight. Instruction is offered on various concert band instruments including flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone and percussion.

Senior Band is open to students in grades five through eight who have had at least one year of experience on their instruments. The band plays music of various styles, including pop, classical and jazz. Music programs are scheduled throughout the year where students can showcase their accomplishments.

Las Vegas Day School encourages student participation in school clubs and activities to enhance social and emotional growth. School activities help children learn to interact with others and work cooperatively.
