What is Kindergarten at LVDS?
The kindergarten program places emphasis upon the individual child’s creativity, learning readiness, personal awareness, and self-expression. Nurturing teachers create a supportive learning environment with large and small group lessons to meet every child’s needs. The goal in kindergarten is to engage children through meaningful projects and to build a lasting enthusiasm for learning.

Our Kindergarten program is perfect for children ages 5-6 who can
be in a structured environment and follow multi-step directions.
Children should be comfortable changing through various activities
throughout the day.
Development Signs
Look for signs of readiness: knowledge of letters, sounds, and
interest in reading. Children should have knowledge of basic
numbers 1-100 and be able to properly hold a pencil for writing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What skills are new Kindergarten applicants tested on?
The Kindergarten entrance exam covers basic math skills and basic phonics skills, such as letter recognition, beginning sounds, and listening skill activities.
Do parents have to provide their child’s school supplies?
As a convenience to parents, the school provides all necessary school supplies for the year at a nominal fee.
Are there any specials offered in Kindergarten?
Kindergarten classes have weekly specials that include Library, Spanish, Art, Music, and PE. These classes are taught by a specialist in each area of study.
Is there before and after school care?
The school offers before and after school care for Kinderschool students. There is an additional fee for these programs.
